We recommend seeding your lawn not only to keep it healthy and rejuvenated, but also to fight back head on with the weeds and set up your lawn to require the least amount of herbicide as possible in order to stay weed free and gorgeous!
There are many benefits to seeding, the best time to apply seed is in the growing season of cool season grasses which is in the spring and fall season for Calgary. It's best in combination with a fall aeration.

Slit-seeding involves creating slits in the grass and depositing seed in to give them deeper contact with the soil. This process ensures better growth, protects the seed from the elements and animals; such as birds.
Any lawn will have a layer of thatch between the grass itself and the dirt below. Slit-seeding ensures the seed is deposited in the soil rather than on top of the thatch where it cannot germinate.
For our Great Dane and Saint Bernard packages we offer an additional complimentary bag of seed during the lawn care season. On the bag there are details about how to get the best results from seeding.

How long does it take for my grass seed to sprout?
Depending where we are in the season grass will begin growing from the seeds in 2-3 weeks. You can expect a 50 - 90% germination with our seed.
How often should I water new seed?
You want the soil of the newly seeded area to stay moist every day. To ensure the top inch of the lawn is moist, you should water the area with a sprinkler for 10 minutes, twice daily (once in the morning, once at night) until the lawn has grown enough to be mowed for the first time. If a heat wave occurs during this time, increase the watering to 3-4 times per day to ensure the soil stays moist during the extreme heat.
How long should I stay off the newly seeded areas?
Until the grass has grown long enough to be mowed for the first time.
How big are the grass seed bags you supply?
Our complimentary seed bags come in 1kg custom branded Yard Dawgs bags. Detailed on the bag is instructions for how to best utilize the seed for best results.
Will my services auto renew?
Yes! For your convenience our services continue year-to- year, however you are never locked into a contract and can make changes or cancel anytime.
Can you come back if my weeds aren't dying?
Yes! Our weed control takes 10-14 days to begin working. If after those two weeks your weeds aren't dying off, we will happily come back free of charge within 48 hours.
